3 GOOD REASONS
Although I love books, I rarely enjoy book reviews. Reviewers are as varied as the books they review, and it is difficult to find one who is entertaining and who you can agree with (i.e., trust). When I do read book reviews, I am looking to answer one question- why should I read the book?
On that note, as an alternative to a full book review, I offer you 3 Good Reasons why you should or should not read the books below.
I'm Looking Through You: Growing Up Haunted: A Memoir by Jennifer Finney Boylan Get it from Amazon: Good Read Store
3 Good Reasons to Not Read This Book: 1) Painful. That's the one word that sums up this book. I listened to this book on CD on my way to and from work, and less than half way through each sentence raked against my nerves like sandpaper on metal. I kept hope alive though. I hoped a story line would surface. I hoped something interesting would catch my attention. But alas, I hoped even more- that it would come to an end.
2) The haunting aspect of this book was less defined and less convincing than an orb, and the brown package in my freezer offers more mystery.
3) How many irrelevant stories can you fit in a book? I don't know and I refuse to go back through and count. But if you venture to do so, you will know.
Even so, Boylan's book did offer me valuable insight into a way of living and being that I will never know. She poignantly suggested that gender choice isn't so much about who someone wants to be with, but rather who they want to be-- something I will take with me going forward.
These Things Hidden by Heather Gudenkauf Get it from Amazon: http://www.autumnwhiltshire.com/good_read_store_18.html
3 Good Reasons why you should or should not read Heather Gudenkauf's new novel, "These Things Hidden."

Duma Key: A Novel by Stephen King
Unabridged Audio Book Get it from Amazon: http://www.autumnwhiltshire.com/good_read_store_18.html
3 Good Reasons to Read This Book:
1) Though this book isn't categorized as sappy, nor would I describe it that way- the friendship between the main character and his best friend rings true and moves you like water moving sand.
2) King combines mystery, paranormal and horror into this novel-- convincingly.
3) When the novel does begin to drag, King throws in snipits of details from his previous works that will keep any Stephen King/Richard Bachman fan entertained.
Fair warning though: After reading this, you may feel an intense urge to call everyone "muchacho/muchacha." "
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini Unabridged Audio Book
Get it from Amazon: http://www.autumnwhiltshire.com/good_read_store_18.html

3 Good Reasons to Read This Book:
1) Hosseini brilliantly weaves Afghanistan's history, from the 1970s to the post 9/11 era, with a brutally honest portrayal of the human condition. Thus offering readers insight and a more personal sense of the lives of Afghanistan's citizens.
2) Miriam and Laila, the two main characters, will make you ache, cry and cheer them on. Seriously-- like jumping from your seat cheering.
3) You will think about the things in this book for many days after.
And as a bonus, if you listen to the book on CD, it comes with an attractive accent. "
