the Secrets of the Sane

Some secrets are more fun to tell than they are to hold, jumping off the tongue like a tick jumping on a dog. Others are more fun to hold than tell, nestling their possessor like a blankie wrapping a toddler. But there is yet another sort of secrets. Secrets of a sort, that are neither fun to tell nor fun to hold.

These are unspeakable secrets, tortuous secrets, twisted secrets. Secrets so honest and real that the insane can never know them. Secrets that suck the spirit of their holder like a leach sucks the blood of its host. Secrets that haunt the intimate corners of the minds of the sane. Secrets that reject disclosure even upon the threat of imminent death. These are--the Secrets of the Sane

The Secrets of the Sane collection is intended to be a collective journal of true secrets that are too painful to hold, but also unable to be told.

If you would like to submit a sane secret, please email your secret to

the Secrets of the Sane

#1)  "While I was pregnant with you, your dad threatened to  'cut that baby from ear-to-ear when it was born'.'" He even ran his finger from one ear to the other, to illustrate.

#2) When my dog walks around me in the kitchen, I picture myself stabbing him.

#3) Your grandpa used to cut cat's tails off.

#4) When you were three, I went numb. I looked at you and felt nothing.

#5) The centricural forces aren't the only forces pulling me towards the edge of the overpass.

#6) Mom didn't want you.

#7) When I see you crossing the street, I want to speed up.

#8) You are my brother. But you're a drain on society, and  I wish you would die.
